Abstract

The growing scientific and biotechnological interest in biobanks has highlighted the need to establish guidelines that allow important advances in science to be achieved and, in turn, to guarantee the rights of donors of biological samples and their associated data. In line with this need, on January 13, 2023, Law 2287 on Biobanks in Colombia was enacted, beginning a path that other countries have already followed for almost 25 years. New questions will arise as a result, which are beyond the scope of this regulation and transcend as bioethical conflicts. This manuscript aims to summarize key aspects of said law, as well as reflect on its scope from bioethics, in line with the ethics of biomedical research and other bioethical currents or theories.
