Abstract

Methemoglobinemia is the result of the increase in blood methemoglobin concentrations, inhibiting the proper supply of oxygen to tissues. It is considered a rare condition that requires high diagnostic suspicion. The case of a patient with malaria is reported who presented cyanosis and desaturation as a manifestation of methemoglobinemia caused by primaquine consumption, with good response to the suspension of the antimalaria drug and the administration of ascorbic acid.
